Staff Accountant - Private Small Business& Nonprofit Accounting
Location: Largo, Maryland | Full-Time | In-Office
Salary: $55,000 - $61,500 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications

- Have a solid understanding of accounting principles
- Must be willing and available to work extended hours and occasional weekends during tax season and other peak deadline periods
- Be able to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities
- Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn
- Be comfortable asking questions when necessary while developing the ability to research and resolve issues independently
- Be organized and able to manage multiple client assignments and deadlines
- Be dependable and follow through on commitments
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Be comfortable communicating directly and professionally with clients
- Understand the importance of confidentiality when handling client and financial information
- Be willing to contribute the additional time necessary during peak periods
Key Responsibilities -
The Staff Accountant will work with multiple clients and perform a variety of accounting and client-service responsibilities, including:
- Perform monthly bookkeeping and accounting for small business and nonprofit clients
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare and assist with monthly financial statements
- Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting schedules
- Review client records for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Assist with payroll processing and related responsibilities, as needed
- Communicate professionally with clients to obtain information and resolve accounting questions
- Assist with year-end accounting and tax preparation
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic client files
- Manage multiple client assignments and meet established deadlines
- Research discrepancies and follow through until issues are resolved
- Assist with other accounting and client-service responsibilities as needed
Qualifications -
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field is preferred
- 1-3 years of experience including internships or related professional experience- (small business and/or nonprofit experience a plus)
- Recent accounting graduates with strong academic preparation are encouraged to apply
- QuickBooks Online experience a plus
- Payroll experience is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or Google sheets and MS Office
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively in a professional, in-office environment
